Network Systems

Multiple servers... LAN... Unix... Linux... Real-time information sharing. The real power of computers comes when they are linked in a network. Check out Network Systems...

The Program
Cisco is the cornerstone of the Network Systems track. Hocking College is a Cisco Networking Academy site. In partnership with Cisco Systems, the Networking Academy curriculum is taught in the five Cisco courses. This rigorous curriculum teaches network communications theory, router theory, and programming & configuring Cisco routers. At the end of the five quarters a student will have learned the topics needed to take the Cisco CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification test. The Cisco Networking Academy is highly regarded for its hands-on exposure to Cisco routers and networking devices.

Students in the Network Systems track take two general networking courses: Intro and Advanced Networking. In these courses, students are exposed to Network Operating Systems (NOS) concepts, transmission media, and current technologies such as wireless networks, IP version 6, Virtual Private Networks, Proxy Servers and Directory Services.

Other courses include Server Management with Windows Server, PC Hardware & Architecture, Advanced Web Page Design, and Network Security.

Learn By Doing
Most of the Network Systems courses include lab time so that students can apply what they've learned to actual computer and network systems. Here, they will learn to install, configure, and troubleshoot the various systems and technologies.
