The Program
Join the Hocking College Team of Champions. Silver medallists in the 1998 & 2000 ACF National Hot Foods Competition and the 2002 Youth Team Tryouts
Combine the art of fine cooking and the business of selling food for profit with an associate degree at the McClenaghan Center for Hospitality Training. Learn the art and science from Executive Chefs who are by your side throughout one of the most modern curriculums available in the country.
Learn about:
- The art of Cooking- from classical cuisine to daily specials
- American, European, and Oriental cooking
- Managing yourself and a team of kitchen staff
- Where and how to buy the best ingredients available
- How to safely use professional kitchen equipment
- Baking techniques for pastries and desserts.
This program is accredited by the American Culinary Federation and organized within their guidelines. Also, this program is a member of and accredited by the Retail Bakers Association.
Learn By Doing
The college's College Owned Hotel and Conference Center serves as your real-life, state-of-the-art kitchen laboratory. Develop culinary delights for the family style Garden Terrace Restaurant, or put your classical cuisine to the test in the Foxfire Fine Dining Restaurant. You'll cater both on and off-site events, ranging from small, informal dinners for 8 to large wedding receptions with a variety of menus and themes.
Explore kitchens through work experience around the USA and the world. Participating sites have included:

- Sciota Country Club
- Toledo Zoo
- Hyatton Capital Square - Columbus, Ohio
- Glenlaurel Inn

Be sure to get involved with the American Culinary Federation- the professional association of Chefs in the United States. You'll have the opportunity to take part in meetings, exhibits, and perhaps even be a part of the Hocking College award winning team! All of these activities earn you points and credits toward chef certification!

Job Market Outlook
- Expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupation through 2014.
- Much faster than average growth is expected among those who work in contract food service establishments.
What Can I Expect to Earn
Among other factors, salaries may vary by geographic region, cost of living, and employee’s previous experience. Wages usually are highest in elegant restaurants and hotels, where many executive chefs are employed, and in major metropolitan areas. The following salary information is based on national averages.
