You’ve read the headlines from around the world: “Spa industry shows incredible growth”… “US Spas generate over $5 billion in revenue each year”… “British spa industry could support 200 new health facilities, generating an estimated $975 million (US) for the British economy and 20,000 new jobs…” “Singapore Spa industry set for double digit growth”… You want to be a part of this important and growing career opportunity. Check out Hocking College’s International Spa Operation and Management.

The Program

This program is specially designed in two tracks:

Choose the business track to fill the extensive need for savvy business-minded individuals who also intimately understand the “spa niche”. Or choose the technician track to be the hands-on individual who focuses on direct client service delivery in a variety of treatments and modalities. Whichever you choose, you will be ready to significantly contribute to a spa team.

All students will participate in a common “core” of courses (3 quarters) and then move into the specialization track. A workshop series, featuring renowned industry professionals, will occur periodically throughout the program, enhancing your understanding of targeted spa specialty areas. Our partners, owners and operators of some of the finest state-of-the-art spas you’ll find anywhere, will serve as mentors as you immerse yourself in their business operation to fully understand all aspects of real-life spa management that caters to the most discriminating of customers. Your courses at Hocking are modularized, meaning that you focus intently on a specific subject for several weeks at a time. This intensity helps you to really hone your skills and allows exposure to many different spa venues for shadowing and practical applied experience.

Spa Operation and Management “Core”- 3 quarters

To be a part of a spa team, whether in a leadership role as a business manager or as a direct service providing technician, a solid understanding of comprehensive spa operations is essential. Work with all enrolled spa students, developing foundational skills that are important for any career in the spa industry. Take courses that introduce you to every aspect of the international spa industry, including spa trends and customer service for the leisure industry.

Specialization- 3 quarters

Choose from one of two focused areas: Spa Business or Spa Technician:

Spa Business
Spa owners who serve on this program’s professional advisory board have shared that they simply cannot find qualified business professionals with applied spa understanding to serve in a management capacity at their facilities; the demand for these professionals greatly outweighs the supply. Prepare yourself to meet this need with comprehensive coursework in service operations and marketing, retail and vendor management, etc. Through coursework in this specialization, you will develop a portfolio of business, marketing, and evaluative plans that will give you the market edge in the spa management industry. To enter the Spa Business program, you do not need prior experience in cosmetology, esthetics, or massage therapy, due to the fact that this is a business track.

Spa Technician
As a licensed massage therapist, esthetician, or cosmetologist, the Spa Technician track enables you to take your treatment and therapy expertise to the next level. You will develop hands-on skills that will make you incredibly marketable. A diverse array of applied experiences will enable you to be prepared to deliver various treatments that will create endless job possibilities in a variety of spa venues. To enter the Spa Technician program, you must be a licensed , massage therapist, aesthetician, or cosmetologist.
