Jon Berens, 2006

Hocking College is a college for people who don’t like school! It was the fourth college/university that I attended. Hocking just fits! I had always struggled with school until I came to Hocking. The hands on approach is a totally new way of learning. It really works!! The people I have met at Hocking College are people I will keep in contact with for many years to come. The instruction is top of the line. All of the instructors are leaders in their field.

P.S. I am graduating Spring quarter and was hired into a full time job before graduation, at a River Rafting and Tour Operations company in Wyoming, just north of Yellowstone. Based on the experience and certifications I earned at Hocking, I will begin as one of their overnight trip leaders. I was promoted immediately upon hire and I experienced a reverse interview. They were selling me on selecting their company.

Amy Roe, 2000

As a graduate from the Ecotourism and Adventure Travel program at Hocking College, I have been very happy with my degree. In the past couple of years, I have been able to work as a sea kayak instructor, a high ropes and initiatives facilitator, and a summer adventure camp crew leader where I assisted children in rock climbing, introduction to scuba, basic paddling skills, orienteering, mountain biking, camping, and many other fun, learning activities.

The excitement about this field has driven me to attend Ohio University in order to receive my bachelor degree in Adventure Recreation. Hocking College was able to offer me a quality education in the field of natural resources (Adventure Travel program). The instructors, who were very knowledgeable in their fields of expertise, were not only wonderful instructors, but also a friend to the students. Hands-on experiences made learning at Hocking College a much easier process for myself as well as many other students. The Bahamas quarter was a wonderful experience that helped to open my eyes to a whole other world of outdoor education, recreation, ecotourism, and environmental science. I appreciate all of the opportunities that Hocking College and its faculty and staff have been able and continue to provide me. I would recommend the Hocking College's Ecotourism/Adventure Travel program to anyone who has a love for the outdoors and recreation and is interested in a quality, hands-on education.
