The Program
This program earns you an Associate degree in Technical Studies in Equine Science. Like the Backcountry Horse program, that's a major in Recreation and Wildlife, this program is also like no other. Similar to the other major this program prepares you to work in the backcountry with horses, but does not include the Recreation and Wildlife "core" classes (botany, dendrology, ornithology, etc.). Instead, this major focuses on wilderness skills with a strong equine science core and adds courses like Equine Conformation anatomy, and healthcare.
Join your classmates and instructors on the trip of a lifetime - the advanced packing classes are electives that take you to the western Rockies in Colorado and Wyoming. Combine your "horse" classes with game management, law enforcement, interpretive services, and more to diversify your education.
Learn By Doing
Get ready to spend time in the barn! Be a part of campus park patrol on horse back. Some students, through Hocking College's student employment program, have the opportunity to work for the barn manager, gaining additional experience and offsetting the cost of college!
