
The Program
Through the combined efforts of the Foothills Art School and Hocking College, develop the skills necessary to become a successful fine craftsperson in our 2-year associate degree program. Whether you are an established craftsperson or you’re just beginning to tap into your artistic side, this program offers you an opportunity to develop techniques and marketing skills to be a competitive craftsperson.
Learn by Doing
Your first quarter, explore ceramic, metal, and glass crafts at the Foothills studio. You’ll try out each medium in order to select one area for concentration. Beginning second quarter you will work with reputed and respected artisans to develop skills in your selected area. Portfolio development and interviews lead to internship and/or apprenticeship opportunities with talented craftspersons.
Through business and marketing courses you will develop presentation, marketing, and management skills while learning to handle taxes, permits, pricing, and distribution. You will network with working artisans through the Foothills Art School and statewide arts organizations.
If you are an established artisan, you will find the business and marketing courses helpful in successfully marketing and selling your art.
Jobs for Grads
Your associate degree in American Art, Design and Marketing offers you a wide variety of employment opportunities including artist/entrepreneur, entry-level gallery associate, and regional art business manager. Average starting salary is $15,000 (after paying expenses, i.e., supplies, studio rental, etc.).

University Center
Through our University Center, we have established partnerships with some of the best 4-year colleges and universities in the nation. Earning a Hocking College associate degree is the first step toward obtaining a bachelors degree or beyond. Continue your education
as you earn university credits, in some cases, right on the Hocking College campus.
Additional Expenses
Students are required to purchase their own tool kits. Lists of materials/supplies will be give to the student at the beginning of the quarter.
Course fees are in addition to tuition and will automatically be added to the student’s account at the time of course registration. There are three types of course fees which will be shown on your account statement:
- 1. Supply fee - provides for consumable materials used in the course.
- 2. Equipment fee - provides for technical equipment, computers, and software used in the course.
- 3. Program fee - provides for national and international experiences, staffing of elective courses, development of alternative modes of instruction, low student to faculty ratios to assure student safety or enhance learning, malpractice liability insurance in appropriate programs, and transportation.
