Sanctioning Guidelines for Drug and Alcohol

Listed are the minimum sanctioning guidelines for alcohol, marijuana and other drug offences

Alcohol Sanctioning Guidelines

For a first time Code II (Unauthorized Use of Alcoholic Beverages) violation, a student should expect:

  1. one semester disciplinary probation
  2. $100 fine will be billed to the student's account
  3. a 3rd Millennium Classrooms 'Under the Influence' on-line course
  4. parental notification

For a first time Code I (Misuse of Alcohol e.g. underage consumption) or (Mental Bodily Harm to Self e.g. "taking reckless but not accidental action from which mental or bodily harm could result to one's self) e.g. abuse of alcohol or other drugs, a student should expect:

  1. one year disciplinary probation
  2. $150 fine will be billed to the student's account
  3. Choices drug/alcohol diversion program at Hocking College
  4. parental notification

Please Note: First offenses of this behavior can result in probation, suspension or expulsion due to the severity of the behavior and/or the presence of aggravating circumstances associated with the alcohol consumption.

A second alcohol violation (Code I, or Code II) while on probation will likely result in:

  1. a minimum of one semester disciplinary suspension in abeyance
  2. a $100 or $150 fine, depending on the level of offense (will be billed to the student's account)
  3. parental notification
  4. Choices drug/alcohol diversion program at Hocking College
  5. disciplinary probation for the duration of the student's Hocking College career
  6. may be evicted from housing with no refund of housing or meal plan fees

A third alcohol violation (Code I, or Code II)

  1. minimum of one semester suspension

Marijuana Sanctioning Guidelines

For a first time Code I (Possession or Use of Marijuana) violation, a student should expect:

  1. one semester disciplinary probation
  2. $100 fine will be billed to the student's account
  3. a 3rd Millennium Classrooms 'Marijuana 101' online course
  4. parental notification

A second marijuana violation (Code I) while on probation will likely result in:

  1. a minimum of one semester disciplinary suspension in abeyance
  2. a $100 or $150 fine, depending on the level of offense (will be billed to the student's account)
  3. Choices drug/alcohol diversion program at Hocking College
  4. disciplinary probation for the duration of the student's Hocking College career
  5. may be evicted from housing with no refund of housing or meal plan fees
  6. parental notification

A third marijuana violation (Code I)

  1. minimum of one semester suspension

Other Drugs and/or Narcotics

Conduct involving a Code I (Manufacture, Distribution, Sale, Offer for Sale, or Possession of Legal or Illegal Drugs or Narcotics) offense will likely result in:

  1. one semester disciplinary probation
  2. $100 fine will be billed to the student's account
  3. Choices drug/alcohol diversion program at Hocking College
  4. parental notification

Conversion of Fines to Work Sanction Hours

Upon written request from a student, a fine may be converted to work sanction hours at a rate of $10 per 1 hour. Work sanction hours may NOT be converted by a student into a fine. Converted work sanction hours which have not been completed by the deadline indicated will be re-converted to a fine, doubled, and charged to the student's account.

Please be advised that failure to complete your sanction by the deadline date will result in your fine being doubled and charged to your student account in addition to your work sanction hours being doubled.
