Completing the FAFSA

Completing the FAFSA opens the door to the federal student aid process. It's to find out if you are eligible, just follow this easy checklist:

Step 1- Fill out the FAFSA form

The FAFSA is available in two ways- online and via US Mail.

FAFSA on the Web
Hocking College strongly recommends completing the FAFSA Online. It's faster and easier!

The FAFSA website is divided into three (3) sections:

  1. Before Beginning A FAFSA
We highly recommend starting here! This site will help you to get organized and make completing the FAFSA a breeze!
  2. Filling Out A FAFSA
FAFSA has seven steps. Work through them all on this site.
  3. FAFSA Follow-Up
You can go back to your FAFSA to check status, make corrections etc.

FAFSA via US Mail
If you wish to fill out a paper version of the FAFSA instead, contact your local high school or the Hocking College Financial Aid Office at 1-877-HOCKING, Ext. 7061 and we will send one to you.

IMPORTANT NOTE: List Hocking College as the first choice of colleges you plan to attend. (Hocking College's Title IV School Code is 007598).

Step 2 - Wait for your results- the Student Aid Report (SAR)

The US Department of Education will process your application and send you a Student Aid Report (SAR). Begin checking for your SAR at the following times:

  • 1 week after submission
If you did the FAFSA online and used a PIN to sign your application
  • 2-3 weeks after submission
If you did the FAFSA online and printed, signed and mailed a signature page
  • 6 weeks after submission
If you completed and mailed the paper version of the FAFSA

Step 3 - Connect with a Hocking College Financial Aid Counselor (optional)

If you'd like some help completing the FAFSA and/or understanding your Student Aid Report (SAR), be sure to talk with a Financial Aid Counselor. They're friendly and knowledgeable- it's their job to help you get the maximum level of financial aid!
