Arts, Business and Information Technology Scholarships

Athens Business and Professional Women/Josephine Johnson Scholarship

The Business and Professional Women organization exists to provide opportunities for professional working women through training, skill building and networking. The Athens chapter of this organization was disbanded in 2006, and the members chose to donate the balance of their funds to Hocking College to establish a scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded to business or nursing students from Athens County, with consideration given to those outside of Athens County as needed.

Joyce D. Malone Memorial Scholarship

Joyce D. Malone was a resident of Athens, Ohio, and an employee of Ohio University. She was a member of the local chapter of Professional Secretaries International, now known as the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), and was an advocate for the advancement of those in the profession. Joyce was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early forties and was bravely battling that disease when she was killed in a car accident. Her friends and colleagues in the IAAP chapter started the Joyce D. Malone Memorial Scholarship Fund in her honor.

In 2006, the IAAP chapter decided to dissolve the fund and transfer its assets to Hocking College to create an endowed scholarship. The scholarship is available to residents of Athens County who are enrolled in the Office Management program at Hocking College. Office Management students outside of Athens County may also be given consideration. Scholarship awards may be used for educational expenses including tuition, fees, books, room, board and transportation.
