Returning Students

Many of our students need to stop taking classes for a short time and return when it's more convenient. We can help you get back on track with your education. If you are returning to Hocking College, you will need to reapply for admission. Before registering for classes, contact the Admissions Office. You will also need to reapply for financial aid.

Readmission

Students who interrupt their attendance and later return must meet the curricular requirements in place at the time of their return. Technical and basic courses taken prior to any interruption may have to be re-evaluated. Those that were taken in the last five years generally will still meet graduation requirements. However, some programs may have more stringent requirements. You should contact your academic department to determine the acceptability of previous courses. Courses that were taken more than five years ago will be evaluated on an individual course basis. Courses taken more than seven years ago will be evaluated for acceptability by the academic department dean.

Fresh Start

Fresh Start is intended to help students who were unsuccessful in previous academic attempts, voluntarily left the college and later returned after a substantial period of time and significant personal change. Fresh Start provides an opportunity for students to reverse the complications of earlier academic difficulties by allowing the student to petition for grade forgiveness from their previous accumulated grade point average.

The following conditions must be met for consideration:

  • Students must wait three consecutive years before returning to the college.
  • Students must have 12 credit hours previously earned toward their degree to re-enroll using Fresh Start.
  • The student must maintain a 2.00 cumulative grade point average.
  • Students eligible for Fresh Start earned grades lower than a "C" for the term/terms petitioned for removal.
  • Students may only use Fresh Start once.

Students applying for Fresh Start must submit a typed essay to Dr. Carl Bridges, Provost, answering three questions:

  1. What was the cause of your previous academic performance?
  2. What have you done to change the situation?
  3. What is your academic plan to complete the program in which you are enrolling?

If a student is interested in petitioning for a Fresh Start GPA, the student must contact the Provost to initiate the process.
