Hocking Woods Nature Center Support - Nature Center

Hocking College offers employment opportunities for students through regular part time employment or through the Federal Work Study Program (FWS). To be considered for FWS, you must indicate your interest in employment on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Position Title Hocking Woods Nature Center Support - Nature Center
Function Under the direct supervision of the Site Manager
% of Time Job Duties Skills & Knowledge
  • Winter especially (but all seasons) facility upkeep, general maintenance, cleaning cages & caring of animals, greeting visitors & assisting faculty & students
  • Spring, Summer, and Fall: Grounds maintenance & upkeep, evening programs
  • All seasons: schedule & provide public school program for area schools, tour groups scouts, general public, daily facility maintenance & upkeep
  • Computer skills (set up and produce newsletter)
  • Customer Service Skills
  • Communication Skills (written & oral, telephone and email )
  • Animal Handling Care & Feeding (including raptors and large venomous snakes)
  • Program Presentation Skills Janitorial Skills for daily Maintenance & upkeep
  • Fire Building
  • Land Navigation Skills
  • Grounds Equipment, Use of hand & power tools, woodshop, and chainsaw skills preferred
Success Skills
  • Communicate Effectively (reading, writing, speaking, listening skills)
  • Demonstrate Knowledge of Science and the Environment (knowledge of scientific principles. Scientific method, awareness of ecological principles/ physical health/social development)

Minimum Requirements
  • Willingness to work hard with or without direct supervision
  • Follow written directions
  • Knowledge of & use of hand & power tools
  • Self Starter
  • Flexiable/Able to work weekends and evenings.
Technology Preferred Natural Resources / prefer Interpretation major
