Automotive Technology Program Description

This new, two-year program offers students hands-on experience in the fundamental and practical aspects of automotive service technology. As an automotive technology student, students will also learn management skills of the industry.

Advancements in the automotive industry have created a demand for technicians trained to troubleshoot, repair, maintain and test today’s high tech automobiles.
Hocking College’s Automotive Technology program trains students in conventional and more advanced vehicular service techniques.
The program prepares students for an entry-level position in service and repair by offering in-classroom and hands-on training in the fundamental and practical aspects of automotive service technology.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are statements of what a student will be able to do when they have completed a program. They represent the knowledge and skills a program has determined are most important for students to gain from that program and include both the Success Skills (institutional outcomes) and Program Outcomes. SLOs are specific and measurable so the program can accurately assess the degree to which students have achieved each outcome, and they align with college and institution mission and values. Data on the achievement of SLOs is used to make improvements in the program and increase student success.

The following outcomes are skills, behaviors, and attitudes cultivated in students seeking the Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology:
- Operate tools and equipment resources related to automotive service in a safe and prescribed manner.
- Research, communicate, diagnosis, estimate, document, and bill for completed service procedures utilizing appropriate technology. Evaluate costumer concerns and diagnose possible system or component malfunctions.
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and/or replace automotive systems and subsystems.
- Engage in effective customer service in all interactions.
New academic programs and curriculums being re-designed based on industry needs will have outcome data available after one complete graduation cycle.
