Leisure Learning

Hocking College offers a variety of leisure learning classes that are focused on creating a rich, creative environment that inspires life-long learning. Classes are hands-on, fun and educational! Whether you are continuing your education, learning a new skill, or investigating a new hobby, Leisure Learning offers something for everyone!

These affordable non-credit classes are held in various locations both on the Hocking College campus and in the surrounding community. Anyone is welcome — you do not have to be a Hocking College student or employee to participate.

Registration Form

To register for a class, please click the "Register Here" link below the class for which you would like to register. If you would like to register for multiple classes, you may do so through the registration portal. Registration for each class will close five days prior to the class meeting date. Please read the policy statement regarding cancellations and refunds.

Spend a beautiful Saturday afternoon exploring the majestic waterways of Athens County. The excursion will include a trip down the Hocking River, and any one of the various lakes in Athens County, including Lake Hope, Fox Lake, and Dow Lake (exact location to be determined by water level). This class combines the basics of canoeing with a water tour through the foothills of SE Ohio and can be enjoyed by novice and expert canoers alike!

Class will begin at Hocking College. Price includes canoe rental, supplies and transportation to various canoeing sites.

Enjoy a Sunday afternoon in the Historic Robbins Crossing on the campus of Hocking College, and meet and greet with members of the SeatWeavers Guild. Demonstrations will include rush weaving, splint weaving, machine cane install, Shaker tape weaving, and hand woven caning.

Master Chef Alfonso Contrsciani

Cost: $125 includes course materials, refreshments, lunch, and 10 pounds of pork to take home

Certified Master Chef Alfonso Contrisciani will be instructing and breaking down a whole Mangalitsa pig, evaluating yields, marbling and fat cover for various primals and cuts. Class includes an in-depth discussion on heritage breeds and ideal specific applications for each. Class will cut and process pork and initialize dry cure and brine pump on hams, bacon, and various cuts. The eight hour workshop is hands on for all participants. Class will fabricate traditional and custom cuts, conduct a taste analysis comparing additional breeds including Berkshire and Duroc. Each participant will leave with 10 pounds of pork.
