Your Partners in Research

Need help with a project? Not sure how to find credible sources or cite them correctly? Ask a librarian!

Get Expert Help

  • Book a Librarian: Don't struggle alone with a tough assignment. Book a Librarian for a 20-minute, one-on-one session (in-person or remote) to get individualized support. We can help you with anything from finding sources to perfecting your citations.

  • In-class Workshops: We also work directly with your instructors to provide research workshops tailored for your specific assignments. We'll come to your class to cover essential research skills like finding credible sources, avoiding plagiarism, and using AI tools responsibly.

  • Hocking College Library Search: This is your one-stop search for books, articles, newspapers, digital media, and more.

  • OhioLINK: As a member institution, all faculty, staff, and students have access to over 100 research databases, 37 million journal articles, and 241,000 e-books.

  • Resource Guide: Get a head start on your research! Our online guide covers how to professionally cite your work and access our resources.

Spaces & Technology

  • Study Areas: We have dedicated zones for quiet study and group work, as well as mixed use and flexible seating areas.

  • Computers: Public computers are available for all your coursework needs.

  • Copying & Printing: A printer and photocopier are available.

    • Black & White: $0.05 per page

    • Color: $0.25 per page

Borrowing Information

  • As an OhioLINK member, you can borrow physical items from a network of 115 libraries across Ohio. That’s over 38 million books and materials, available for you to check out!

  • Students:

    • Checkout: Present your Student ID.

    • Loan Period: 21 days for all books.

    • Loan Limit: Up to 15 books at a time.

    • Library Use Only: Periodicals, reference items, and reserve items cannot be checked out.

  • Community:
    • Eligibility: Members of the community living within 50 miles of the Nelsonville campus can register as patrons. Please present a photo ID and proof of local residency.

    • Loan Period: Hocking College Library books are loaned for 21 days and can typically be renewed four times.

    • Note: OhioLINK borrowing is not available to community members.

Our Mission & Policies

  • Mission: The Hocking College Library is committed to the advancement of teaching and learning by providing resources and services that support the core values of the college and enriching the experience by creating a community of lifelong learners.

  • Gift Policy:

    • We Happily Accept: Hardcover or paperback books in good condition and monetary donations.

    • We Cannot Accept: Textbooks older than 5 years, workbooks, items in poor condition (mold, mildew), CDs/DVDs, or VHS/cassette tapes.

  • Fines and Fees:

    • No Overdue Fines on Hocking College materials.

    • OhioLINK Fines: $0.50/day overdue; $2.00/day for recalled items.

    • Billing for Lost Items: If an item is overdue more than 30 days, it is billed to your account with the following charges.

    • Hocking: Replacement cost + processing fee.

    • OhioLINK: $125.00 bill (reduced to $50.00 if the item is returned).

  • Commitment to Intellectual Freedom: Hocking College Library supports the American Library Association's "Library Bill of Rights," "Intellectual Freedom Principles for Academic Libraries" and "Freedom to View" statement. The Library complies with all provisions of U.S. Copyright Law (17 U.S.C.) and its amendments. We support the Fair Use section of the Copyright Law (17 U.S.C. 107) which permits and protects citizens' rights to reproduce and make use of copyrighted works for the purposes of teaching, scholarship and research.
